World Cup 2026: SBPA Issues Updated Guidance for Scottish Pubs
2026
With Scotland preparing for its first World Cup finals since 1998, the Scottish Beer & Pub Association has released updated operational guidance for venues showing matches between 11 June and 19 July.
The guidance sets out practical steps for operators on licensing, staffing, crowd management and running safe, high demand matchdays. It also summarises local licensing board positions across Scotland.
Developed with Police Scotland and backed by major trade bodies including Best Bar None Scotland, BII Scotland, the Institute of Licensing and UKHospitality Scotland, the document stresses early engagement with LSOs and police to ensure consistent, well managed operations throughout the tournament.
Paul Togneri of the SBPA describes the event as a “landmark moment” for Scotland’s pubs and urges operators to plan ahead.
Operators should review the guidance now, check local board expectations and ensure matchday plans are robust. Our team can advise on licensing implications or event specific trading arrangements.
