Wales to extend and increase minimum unit price.

Members of the Senedd have passed regulations to extend the minimum pricing for alcohol policy and to increase the minimum unit price from 50p to 65p, to mirror the rate in Scotland.

The increase in the MUP is to come into effect from 1 October 2026.

Minimum unit pricing introduced in Wales under the Public Health (Minimum Unit Price for Alcohol) (Wales) Act 2018. The Act contained a sunset clause, which had the Senedd not voted to extend the policy, would have seen MUP end on 1 March 2026.
