The future of the social economy - Philip Kolvin QC

Here is a link to an article co-written by leading licensing counsel Philip Kolvin QC and Alicia Scholer, Vice President of the Responsible Hospitality Institute in the US, giving their vision of the long-term impact Covid-19 will have on the social economy.

We found the 4 principal factors to aide the recovery of a thriving social economy very interesting. We hope Local Authorities will reflect on current policies for planning and licensing and recognise a different approach is required going forward if they want their towns and cities to thrive.

The original thinking underpinning the introduction of the Licensing Act for a more liberal and flexible system for responsible operators is a very distant memory. We are optimistic however, that Leisure and Hospitality venues can adapt, evolve and meet the challenges of the changing social culture even in the absence of the hoped for Local Government support.
