Sunday Trading - Vote Delayed

22 Oct
2015

Reports today in the media state that a Parliamentary vote which may lead to relaxation of the Sunday trading laws has been postponed by the Government.

As we have earlier reported, the Government launched in August a consultation on the possibility of devolving to Local Authorities the power to allow Sunday trading at any premises within their district, at the moment this is limited to stores smaller than 280 m2.

The delay is attributed to potential rebellion amongst the Government MPs.  The Government appears to prefer to undertake further consultations with MPs before scheduling the vote.
