It is being reported that SIA investigations officers are currently carrying out inspections across the UK.

As Licensed premises operators will no doubt be aware to work as a “door supervisor” an individual needs to be registered and approved by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

It is reported that the current inspections have led to two criminal investigations. This has also led to nearly fifty licences being seized.
The SIA have stated:
“Through our investigations and detections, we have noted that the primary reasons for the use of fraudulent licenses have been due to individuals having a criminal background or no right to work, therefore would not be granted an SIA licence. It is vital for employers to ensure they have undertaken their due diligence and checks prior to contracting security staff.”

This is a timely reminder to Operators to ensure that where they use Door Supervisors at sites that the individuals working as door supervisors hold the correct approval and to keep good up to date records of when door supervisors are utilised and their registration details as part of their due diligence process.

Our Solicitors are always happy to help and advise around the specifics of good due diligence.
