Further to our news item last week in relation to the Government proposal to extend hours for the on sale of alcohol, should one of the Home Nation teams reach the latter stages of the Men’s World Cup 2026.This would only apply to England and Wales, as Scottish licensing is governed by a separate regime.

It is being reported that the Scottish Government are considering how they can work with Licensing Boards in relation to this issue for Scottish matches.

Timings for the world cup matches have been revealed, and some of the matches kick-off late in the evening, and in the early hours (2AM).

Scottish Health Secretary Neil Gray is reported as saying.

“In Scotland, clearly, the licensing decisions are made by local authorities. But, of course, we are going to be working with them to try to make sure that people are able to enjoy the celebration as Scotland get out of the group of death with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.”

We will keep you updated as to any developments in this area.
