Scotland | Covid Restrictions to lift from Monday

From Monday (24th January) many of Scotland's Covid-19 restrictions imposed over Christmas are to be eased, the First Minister (Nicola Sturgeon) announced yesterday.

The decision follows a "significant fall" in new case numbers and in the belief that Scotland had "turned the corner on the Omicron wave".

The limits on attendance at indoor public events, the requirement for 1m physical distancing and table service in hospitality venues, and the requirement for nightclubs to close will be lifted.  In addition, Guidance advising adults against meeting up with more than three households at a time will be scrapped and replaced with advice to keep gatherings "small" to reduce the risk of infection.

Face coverings on public transport and indoor public places will continue and the Scottish Government will also maintain their advice that people should work from home wherever possible for now.

The controversial vaccine passport scheme will remain in respect of the current specified settings however Ministers have decided at this time not to expand the requirement to any more of the hospitality sector as had previously being mooted in the press.  The requirement to collect customer details will also remain for the hospitality sector.
