Late Night Levy - Bolton

18 Oct
2024

From 1st February 2025 Bolton Council will implement a late night levy (LNL) which will cover 39 operations in the town centre.

Interestingly the levy applies to both alcohol and late night refreshment between 3am and 6am.

The levy is a major financial burden for those operators who wish to continue to trade beyond 3am being between £299 and £4,440 depending on the rateable value of the premises and whether it is used exclusively or primarily for the sale of alcohol.

A free minor variation can be made to reduce the hours below the LNL threshold which will save the annual increased cost but will of course diminish an asset of the business.

Law correct at the date of publication.
