Government announces plans to tackle ticket touts
2025
Further to a Government election promise to combat ticket touts, the Government has launched a public consultation into capping the price of resale event tickets. The consultation will seek views on potentially capping the resale value prices from the original price up to 30%. The government are also proposing to limit the number of tickets that resellers can sell, to the maximum they are allowed to purchase in the original ticket sale.
Investigations by Trading Standards have uncovered evidence of tickets being resold for up to six times their original cost, with Competition and Market Authority (CMA), stating that tickets sold on the resale market are usually marked up by more than 50%.
In addition to the consultation, the Government have also launched a call for evidence into dynamic pricing.
Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary has stated,
"We are taking action to strengthen consumer protections, stop fans getting ripped off and ensure money spent on tickets goes back into our incredible live events sector, instead of into the pockets of greedy touts."
