Gambling - Consultations

2020

Even during a pandemic the world moves forward, perhaps in a more haphazard or unpredictable manner.  The UK Gambling regulator, the Gambling Commission are currently proceeding with 2 consultations which opened on 26th February.

The first consultation concerns Information requirements in the licence conditions and codes of practice (LCCP) and regulatory returns and comments are invited up to 20th May 2020.

The proposal, subject to consultation responses, seeks to make data requirements more efficient for licensees, and the Commission, by only requesting data that supports the Commission's regulatory aims. These changes seek to:

  • improve data quality and the efficiency of regulation
  • reflect our continued focus on consumers and social responsibility
  • ensure requirements are reconciled against our current and future data needs
  • streamline the Commission's existing requirements and, where possible, reduce regulatory burden

The consultation is split into two parts. Part 1 details changes to information reporting requirements within the LCCP, and Part 2 focuses on regulatory returns and official statistics.

The second consultation, also running until 20th May 2020, concerns the display of licensed status.  The proposal is to amend the Gambling Commission’s licence conditions and codes of practice (LCCP) to:

  • improve the consistency of the Commission's requirements for the display of licensed status on websites and;
  • to expand licence condition 8.1 to non-commercial societies and local authority websites offering access to lottery tickets.
