Face masks in Wales could be scrapped by the end of March

In response to the falling case rates, the Welsh government believes it could begin to ease the remaining coronavirus restrictions.

As of the 18 February, the requirement to present a Covid pass for entry into entertainment venues, nightclubs and large events in Wales will no longer be required.

Also, from 28 February, pupils will not be required to wear masks in class and the requirement for face coverings in most public places, including places of worship, cinemas and museums, will also be relaxed, leaving the requirement to be maintain in shops, public transport, hairdressers, salons and health and social care.

In contrast to the announcement by PM Boris Johnson who said that self-isolation rules in England could end by 21 February, self-isolation rules are still being maintained, but this requirement, along with other remaining restrictions, but will be reviewed by Welsh ministers on 3 March.

Economy Minister Vaughan Gething stated,

"At that point we may move to self-isolation being guidance rather than mandatory but at this point we think it is still important to have that as a protective measure in law,"

On the questions of people living in England (who have tested positive for Covid), but travelling to work in Wales without self-isolating, Mr Gething stated that "If you are in Wales, you need to follow the [isolation] rules in Wales, it's that simple,".
