England - Extra Bank Holiday Annoucement

Although some time away it has been announced that an additional Bank Holiday will take place in 2022 to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The queen will have reigned for 70 years on 6 February 2022 but plans are in place to stage a series of events from 2-5 June.

The intention is to create a four-day weekend in June 2022, the late May Spring Bank Holiday that year will be moved to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June will be created.

We will have to wait until closer to the time to see if the government relaxes the licensing laws for this special weekend in a similar manner as it did for the recent royal weddings, however as the culture secretary said it would be a "truly historic moment" and that the Queen deserved a "celebration to remember", it is very probable.
