The Government have now issued new Regulations on the issue of self-isolation.  The Regulations follow statements from the Prime Minister and Health Secretary in the wake of the newly identified Omicron variant of the Covid 19 virus.

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Self-Isolation) (England) (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2021 came into force this morning at 4am.

Whereas before those who were ‘fully vaccinated’ were not required to self-isolate after coming into contact with those who have contracted Covid, going forward those who have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for coronavirus and that person is suspected of, or confirmed as, having an Omicron variant will now be required to self-isolate, regardless of vaccination status.

In addition, those whose child has had close contact with a person who has tested positive for coronavirus and that person is suspected of, or confirmed as, having an Omicron variant will also need to self-isolate.

The above Regulations amend the “The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Self-Isolation) (England) Regulations 2020” which is not due to expire until 24th March 2022.

These new Regulations are likely to see an increase in the number of people required to self-isolate, which over the Summer created considerable operational issues for many hospitality businesses.
