Covid 19 - Lights, Camera, Covid Passes

2021

As of Monday 22 November 2021, Covid passes will be required to attend cinemas, theatres and concert halls in Wales. Covid passes were previously introduced in October, for entry into large-scale events and nightclubs. With the Covid passes requirement extending, other industries (such as hospitality) fear that they may be next on the list, albeit, the Welsh government is yet to make a decision on whether to extend this requirement to the hospitality sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Welsh Beer and Pub Association, Emma McClarkin (Chief Executive) states,

“It [Covid passports] must be avoided.”

“Case numbers are falling in Wales, so bringing in this measure would be counter-productive and put brewers and pubs in jeopardy even though data shows hospitality not to be a significant source of transmission."

The Welsh Government’s move to extend the Covid passes requirement, comes as case rates still remain high.  This decision has received resistance from members of the public, with protestors claiming that the need for Covid passes unreasonably restricts personal freedoms, and a civil liberties campaign is said to have commence legal proceedings against the Welsh Government.

Furthermore, members of the Welsh theatre industry, proclaim that the Welsh Government has simply not provided relevant operators with sufficient notice to prepare their sites and their customers for the change.

Should you need to obtain a Covid pass, in Wales anyone aged over 16 can get an NHS Covid pass if they are fully vaccinated or have had a negative lateral flow test in the previous 48 hours. Please also visit the below link for more information:
