Covid 19 - Hospitality Spared

2021

The weekend brought news of a new variant Omicron and the reinstatement of certain restrictions which will come into force on Tuesday at 4am.

The requirements are set out in this document: Government takes decisive action against new COVID-19 variant.

The requirements are face coverings will be compulsory in:-

  • shops,
  • other settings such as banks, post offices and hairdressers,
  • on public transport

unless individuals are exempt from doing so.

The Prime Minister made it clear in his address that hospitality was not included in the requirements set out above, stating:

“We will also go further in asking all of you to help contain the spread of this variant, by tightening up the rules on face coverings in shops and on public transport.

And third - and most importantly - we need to bolster our protections against this new variant.

We don’t yet exactly know how effective our vaccines will be against Omicron, but we have good reasons for believing they will provide at least some measure of protection.

And if you are boosted – your response is likely to be stronger.

So, it’s more vital than ever that people get their jabs, and we get those boosters into arms as fast as possible.”

Additionally, there was no announcement as to Covid Passport implementation.

As previously the decision will enter in to a 3-week review cycle.
