In a much-awaited announcement for the hospitality sector, the Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, confirms that the Government will not be proceeding with plans to introduce vaccine passports for access into nightclubs and large events in England. Whilst there are no plans at this juncture, Mr Javid warned that No.10 hadn't ruled out implementing such a scheme during the autumn and winter months, should the need arise.

Mr Javid stated:

"We just shouldn't be doing things for the sake of it or because others are doing, and we should look at every possible intervention properly."

This announcement has been welcomed by the hospitality sector, who had fears that such measures would be crippling to the industry, and potentially exposing nightclubs discrimination cases. It is believed that the Government's plans to proceed without vaccine passports, will aid the sector and help businesses bounce back from a very difficult period.

Mr Javid's announcement is set to not affect the decision of the Scottish Parliament and First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon is response has stating that vaccine passports have a "part to play" and the Scotland will be pressing with implementing the scheme on the 1 October 2021.
