Covid 19 - England and Wales Business Eviction Ban Extended
2020
The Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government have today confirmed that business owners affected by the pandemic will be protected from eviction until the end of March 2021, extending the current moratorium for a further three months. Additionally the Government Press Release confirms that there will be a review of Commercial Landlord and Tenant Legislation launched to try to address the concerns raised during the pandemic but the current framework does not reflect the current economic conditions. The review is to consider how to enable better collaboration between Commercial Landlords and Tenants and how to improve the leasing process so as to enable the high streets and town centres to thrive post pandemic.
Interestingly within the Press Release there is reference to the extension of the moratorium against eviction being the final extension providing a further three months for the parties to come to an agreement on any unpaid rent. However, this was caveated by the Government who expressed the view that where businesses can pay any or all of their rent, they should do so.
The information issued by the Ministry can be found here.
The next date for review of Tier allocation is 16th December with hopefully an announcement of any changes by the 17th.
Thereafter the next Tier Review date is the 30th December.
