World Cup extensions - important reminder

24 Apr
2014

With under 7 weeks to go to the World Cup, a reminder that:

  1. The proposed Government relaxation of licensing hours only applies in England (not Wales or Scotland) and to matches England actually play in so if (as the optimists amongst us hope) England qualify for the latter stages of the tournament then there will be extended hours for these later games but only those where England play.
  2. There is no extension for the group match with Costa Rica which is 5pm kick off.
  3. The maximum terminal hour will be 1 am or 4 hours after the scheduled kick off time, whichever is the earlier.
  4. This only applies to alcohol for consumption on the premises and late night refreshment including members clubs. It does not apply to the provision of regulated entertainment.

It follows that if you want extensions outside the proposed limits, for instance, for

  • later hours or
  • to provide regulated entertainment, or
  • to extend hours in Wales for that matter or
  • to extend hours for matches that do not involve England, you will need to submit Temporary Event Notices in the usual way.

The FIFA match schedule can be found HERE.
