With the new blueprint for regulation of food safety published this summer,   it  is more important than ever, that your regulatory safety systems are in order.

For both The Food Standards Agency ( FSA)  and Food Standards Scotland, the idea behind the new system is to be “firm and quick” with businesses that “aren’t meeting their responsibilities.”

The Food Standards Agency maintain that “ businesses should meet the costs of regulation, which should be no more that they need to be“.

But there is concern within the industry with the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) stating “ we will certainly be pushing to ensure that any new system of regulation is proportionate, especially given the diversity of food businesses across the UK”

The financial implications for businesses that fall foul of Food Safety Laws, is set to greatly increase. Under the new system, the cost of all inspections, including  re-inspections is to be recouped from the businesses themselves.

The key issue is understanding compliance, certainly this is a new regulatory framework where some very expensive mistakes could be made by operators.

To avoid these, now is the perfect time to review your regulatory controls and food safety systems.  Should you require any advice, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0114 266 8664.
