Westminster Council Trial "Pee Paint" in the West End

16 Dec
2022

No...before anyone thinks it, Westminster are not painting walls with urine. They are, however, trialling specialist "pee paint" on urination hotspots in the West End.

The coating, which can be applied to exterior walls, creates a bounce-back effect causing urine to deflect back at the offender.

Public urination is often cited by residents as a public nuisance in licensing applications so it will be interesting to see if this measure has a positive effect and whether it could be adopted by operators or BIDs. It should be pointed out however, that this is just one of several measures being used in Westminster, which include increased enforcement activity, temporary public toilets, and the reopening of permanent facilities.

Law correct at the date of publication.
