Twickenham pubs to remain open following World Cup games

Richmond Council have relented on its plan to restrict entry to pubs after 22.00 on the night of International rugby matches.

During the recent World Cup warm-up match between England and France the Metropolitan Police made a stadium announcement to say people may not be admitted to venues after 22:00 in an attempt to "try and ensure the impact on local residents and the community was kept to a minimum".

It was feared that this would continue throughout the World Cup.  However, under revised plans,  the number of people in the town centres and in pubs at each evening match will be monitored and the police and local council officers will then liaise direct with local operators to ensure the safety of customers.  There will therefore be no deadlines for pubs in the vicinity.

Twickenham will host 10 games during the tournament which begins on 18 September, including most of England's games, both semi-finals and the final on Saturday, 31 October.
