Scotland - Shetland Board incorporate legal high condition on Occasional Licences

2015

Back in May we reported that In the Queen's Speech 2015, the Government has confirmed its intention to introduce the Psychoactive Substances Bill in order to make it an offence to produce, supply, offer to supply, possess with intent to supply, import or export psychoactive substances (any substance intended for human consumption that is capable of producing a psychoactive effect).

At its meeting on 14 July 2015, the Shetland Islands Area Licensing Board following receipt of a letter from the Scottish Government agreed to put in an additional condition on Occasional Licences for music festivals and other public entertainment events to prevent legal highs from being sold at such licensed events.

A copy of the letter received by the Board from the Scottish Government can be viewed here.

No doubt other Boards will also look to incorporate similar conditions, which may impact upon events such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Glasgow Film Festival.

Law correct at the date of publication.
