Scotland - Personal Licence Refresher Training - salutary warning!

21 Aug
2014

We have previously reported that Scottish personal licence holders must undertake their mandatory refresher training within 5 years of the grant of their licence and then evidence that training to the relevant Licensing Board within the requisite time period. We have also reminded that failure to take those steps will result in the revocation of the personal licence with the inability to re-apply for 5 years!

By way of update, we are aware that Police Scotland is currently speaking to all the Licensing Boards about identifying and revoking those personal licences falling foul of the above and then in due course will consider how to monitor the revoked licences to ensure no re-applications are made within 5 years.

Perhaps more importantly, Police Scotland confirmed (as would be expected) that they will be taking action against licensed premises operating with a Premises Manager who has had their licence revoked as and when they become aware of this.

If you have any concerns as to whether your position is covered, or if you believe you will miss the refresher training deadline, please contact us urgently to discuss what steps can be taken to remedy the situation.
