Retailers Praise Proposed Shoplifting and Assault Laws

The Federation of Independent Retailers has praised the new Government for reintroducing proposed legislation to protect shop owners and workers from thefts and attacks.

The proposed legislation follows campaigning and concerns about increases to retail crime.

Assaulting a shopworker will become a specific offence under the Crime and Policing Bill much like assaulting an emergency worker.

The previous iteration of the Crime and Policing Bill failed when the general election was called.

Law correct at the date of publication.
