Proposed Price Increase Disclosure & Barring Service

2024

Subject to approval, the DBS intends to increase the cost of DBS checks and the DBS update service from 2nd December 2024.   All fees are increasing but DBS checks for volunteers will remain free of charge. Final fees to be confirmed following Parliament approval on 4th November 2024.

On their website the Disclosure & Barring Service justify the need for the increase as follows:

The fee for each of the DBS ‘chargeable’ products is set at its own unit cost with the aim of full cost recovery for each product. These fees are reviewed annually to ensure they remain appropriate and deliver value for money for both the customer and the public purse.

Over the last few years, we have been able to deliver substantial savings to our customers, through significant reductions in the fees for our Disclosure checks, and by holding the fee for our Update Service.

Quality remains at the core of what we do in our products, in the services we provide, and in the decisions that we make. To maintain the highest quality, in an environment with growing demand for our services together with the need to modernise and replace legacy IT platforms these changes are now necessary.

Law correct at the date of publication.
