Minimum Unit Pricing of alcohol - yet more!

04 Sep
2015

This follows on from the news yesterday ('Scotland - Indication By European Court on legality of MUP') that a preliminary judgment of the European Court of Justice indicated that prescribing a minimum price for alcoholic drinks could only be justified to protect public health if no alternative measure could be found.

We now see the publication today of a Parliamentary Briefing Paper setting out the background to Minimum Unit Pricing and commenting in detail on the policy under the previous Coalition Government and in Scotland, including a reference to the preliminary judgment issued yesterday.

The paper can be found here: 'Alcohol: Minimum Pricing'

Law correct at the date of publication.
