Licensing Hours Extensions Bill

Readers may recall that we have previously reported on the passage of the Licensing Hours Extensions Bill.

This was a Private Members’ Bill sponsored by Emma Lewell-Buck MP and Lord Watson of Wyre Forest. The purpose of the Bill was to amend the Licensing Act 2003 so that Licensing Hours Orders could be made by negative resolution statutory instrument rather than needing to be positively approved. Unfortunately, much like many other proposed items of legislation, the Bill’s progress was halted by the General Election.

We are pleased to report that following a question from Emma Lewell-Buck MP yesterday, the Leader of the House has agreed to discuss how the Bill can be moved forward and we will continue to monitor and report on its progress.

Law correct at the date of publication.
