JG&P Ensure Successful Re-opening of Beloved Portsmouth Pub

Many locals of Portsmouth’s Duke of Devonshire pub were shocked to see its premises license suspended following a brief spell of disorder at the end of July. Nevertheless, due to the efforts of John Gaunt & Partners led by partner Jon Wallsgrove, the licensing sub-committee hearing the case made the decision not to revoke the license, allowing this popular venue to continue its lauded contribution to the Southsea pub scene.

Jon acted quickly following the sub-committee’s initial suspension of the premises license, proposing a range of interim steps to get the premises open at the earliest opportunity, overturning the decision to suspend the licence.  At the final hearing on Friday he proposed key amendments to the current license in order to prevent a full revocation. The initial (and unfounded) reports of discontent at the Duke of Devonshire had caused some local outrage, however with the endorsements of its faithful locals Jon ensured that popular landlord/lady Tom and Sam Yaman can continue to provide their brilliant service to local pubgoers.

The licensing sub-committee were persuaded that no issues would occur in the future and the venue would sufficiently be able to promote all licensing objectives.

John Gaunt & Partners wish Sam and Tom the best of luck in rebuilding their enviable reputation following these unfortunate events and, as a sentiment echoed by the chair of the licensing sub-committee, wish to never see them in a license dispute again.
