Home Office Publish Alcohol Licensing Data for Year Ending 31 March 2022

The Home Office has published data pertaining to alcohol licensing for the year ending 31 March 2022.

In the main, the statistics are a comparison with similar data collected in 2018. This is because data for the year ending 31 March 2020 was not collected due to Covid-19.

As at 31 March 2022, there were:

• 817,100 Personal Licences (up 13%);
• 222,500 Premises Licences (up 5%);
• 13,500 Club Premises Certificates (down 4%);
• 98,500 Temporary Event Notices given (down 33%)
• 10,600 Premises with 24-hour Premises Licences (up 31%); and
• 189 Cumulative Impact Areas in place across the country.

There were also 347 applications for Review carried out in the year ending 31 March 2022, a 43% decrease when compared with the year ending 31 March 2018 (611).

These statistics are released biennially, and it will be interesting to see what the figures look like in a couple of years’ time as the longer-term impacts of Covid and the current financial crisis bear down further upon the sector.
