Government launches consultation on banning the supply of certain single-use plastics

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has launched two consultations looking at single-use plastic items in England.
- Banning the supply of single-use plastic
The first is seeking views about banning the supply of single-use plastic, including:
- plates;
- cutlery;
- balloon sticks; and
- expanded and extruded polystyrene food and drink containers.

Responses can be made either:
- using the citizen space consultation hub here;
- emailing Plastics.consultation@defra.gov.uk; or
- in writing to Consultation on proposals to ban commonly littered single-use plastic items in England, Consultation Coordinator, Defra, 2nd Floor, Foss House, Kings Pool, 1-2 Peasholme Green, York, YO1 7PX.
This consultation closes on 12 February 2022
- Problematic plastic items
There is also a call for evidence on other problematic plastic items, particularly:
- wet wipes;
- tobacco filters;
- sachets; and
- single-use plastic cups.
