Gloucester City Council postpone Late Night Levy decision
2017
A meeting scheduled this week regarding Late night Levy Proposals, has been postponed until the 24th July 2017.
The Council indicated that it had received a number of consultation responses requesting a Business Improvement District (BID) to deliver initiatives for a safer night time economy, as an alternative, to the proposed Late Night Levy.
We understand a ballot will be held from the 1st June 2017 for one month, if the BID is adopted by the Council on the 24th July it could take effect the following month.
Gloucester City Council have cited the example of Cheltenham, where the late night levy will cease from 1st April 2017 in favour of the town’s business improvement district, Cheltenham City Council gave three reasons for this:
- The need to ensure that businesses were not unduly burdened by two levies;
- The understanding that levy activities would be incorporated in BID activities; and
- The fact that BID income would be substantially more than the income raised through the Levy.
We will keep you updated as to any further developments.
