DP and PD - two significant decisions!

Last Wednesday saw us appearing before the Licensing Committee in Newbury on an application to allow the local Dominos Pizza franchisee to sell alcohol for delivery with pizzas; there were objections to this both from Newbury Town Council and from ‘Public Health and Wellbeing and Child Protection'.

Happily following a contested hearing these objections were overcome with the result that alcohol deliveries - with food ordered - can now take place between 10.00am and 5.00am the following morning daily. This is part of a currently limited national trial.

Last Thursday saw us back in front of our home council when we confronted over 40 residential objections to our application for the Pointing Dog Clubhouse on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield. The application was to extend the terminal hour for the sale of alcohol from 12.00 midnight to 1.00am the following morning on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

For those of you who do not know Ecclesall Road it is a major arterial road into the City which has seen significant leisure developments over recent years - but the Pointing Dog Clubhouse, with its large southern facing external terraced area, is now one of few premises able to open this late.

A restriction was imposed that the terrace should not be used for the consumption of alcohol after 12.30am.

In their different ways both of these were significant applications, attracting local concern and in both cases a satisfactory outcome was achieved.
