Following  discussions with the Home Office and National Pubwatch, the BBPA (British Beer & Pub Association) has produced an updated guide for Licensees on the laws surrounding drugs,  and their associated issues upon licenced premises.

Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pub Association commented:

“Drugs can be associated with the night-time economy, and even the best-run premises are not always immune.  A proactive approach to tackling illicit drugs and a strong relationship with the police and local authorities are the best way forward.”

The guide has been designed to assist in training of staff,  so they can be informed and well equipped to tackle the issues.

It is particularly useful on the  Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 and on door searches,  a link to the guide can be found here (with thanks to the BBPA): 'Drugs and pubs: A guide to keeping a drug free pub'.

Law correct at the date of publication.
