'Ask for Angela' initiative gaining traction nationally

This scheme launched last year is apparently gaining traction across the country; believed to have started in Lincolnshire, it is now increasing being promoted elsewhere (Google – ‘ask for Angela’) and it has attracted much media attention. The idea is very simple – it advises anyone who is feeling unsafe on a date to ask the bar staff for "Angela"— a code word alerting the staff that someone is in need of help.  The idea of being helped discreetly is a compelling part about the campaign.

The initiative applies to men and women who may be on a date but are feeling uncomfortable or even threatened. They can approach the staff of the premises they are in and use the code words "Is Angela in?"  The staff will then know that the person is in need of assistance and will help to remove them from the situation and call a taxi if necessary.

We expect to see many more authorities to be looking to promote this in coming months.
