A Licensing Regime for Non-Surgical Aesthetics?

The Joint Council for Cosmetics Practitioners (JCCP), the British Beauty Council, and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) have received assurances from the Government that it is committed to introducing a licensing regime for non-surgical aesthetics in England following a joint letter on behalf of the aesthetics industry.

Non-Surgical Aesthetics are procedures like fillers, Botox injections, chemical peels, and laser treatments.

The Department of Health & Social Care has confirmed that it is currently designing and will be implementing a new licensing system for the non-surgical cosmetic industry.

Maria Caulfield, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health & Women’s Health Strategy said [in the response to the industry bodies] that “departmental officials will work as quickly as possible to introduce the licensing scheme and will consider all the important areas.” Ms Caulfield also explained that the regime would be designed to keep pace with new treatments and procedures as they are developed.

It is believed that the Government will set out a timetable for the implementation of the scheme within the coming weeks and we will bring you more information as it becomes available.
